Shore gen.1

Status: Dead, as of 2026-04

Model: Lenovo ThinkCentre A60 SFF (type 9384)
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ @ 2 GHz
RAM: 1024 MB (960 MB usable, 64 MB reserved for GPU)
HDD: 1 TB (originally 40 GB)

Apr 2026: The mainboard seems to have died from capacitor plague. (Considering that several other units from the same batch had died years ago, it's a surprise it lasted as long as it did.) Mirage will run in its place, while the original Shore Windows XP will likely become a VM either on Dune or Mirage.

Shore is an old Lenovo SFF desktop running Windows XP. It sits next to Dune and sometimes takes part in odd networking experiments.

The PC has an Athlon 64, which is a dual-core CPU and even has support for hardware virtualization, so the system might eventually serve as a virtualization host (using Virtual Server 2005).

Most of the time Shore is used remotely over RDP. ("You have a VM server right there; just use a VM!" No, that's boring!) It has both its physical RS232 serial and a USB-serial adapter connected to some of the Cisco routers for console access via HyperTerminal.

Currently Shore has two Ethernet uplinks (to DuneGW & ShoreGW), with a virtual "loopback" address which is announced via OSPFv2 using XORP.

ShoreGW

Model: Mikrotik RB951G-2HnD
CPU: Atheros 9344 (MIPS 74Kc V4.12) @ 600 MHz
RAM: 128 MB
OS: Mikrotik RouterOS 7.x

Now technically "MirageGW". Currently its main tasks are to provide Wi-Fi to the Dunelab room, and to roleplay a separate "site" at the other end of the Cisco serial link.

UPS

Shore is powered by a slightly old APC Back-UPS 500.
